Amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, Israel has carried out a major military operation, killing Alireza Tangsiri, a Navy commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

According to the Israel Defense Forces, the operation was carried out in the city of Bandar Abbas, based on intelligence. However, there has been no official response from Iran.

The face-off affecting the Strait of Hormuz is over.

Alireza Tangsiri was considered a key figure in the strategy to close the Strait of Hormuz. This vital sea route has been virtually closed for the past 20 days, impacting global oil supplies. His death has raised questions about whether the route will ever be reopened.

Why is the Strait of Hormuz important?

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most important sea lanes. This narrow passage, connecting the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman, is crucial for the global oil trade. More than 20% of the world's oil supply passes through it, so tensions here impact the global economy.

Who was Tangsiri?

Born in 1962, Alireza Tangsiri had been the commander of the IRGC Navy since 2018.

He was considered one of Iran's influential military leaders and was considered close to Qasem Soleimani. He also played a key role in the capture of US Marines in 2016, which further increased his stature.

The war is getting expensive

The cost of this ongoing conflict in the Middle East is also enormous. According to reports, the US spent approximately $3.7 billion (over 31,000 crore rupees) in the first 100 hours alone against Iran.

This expenditure is reaching approximately $900 million daily. The US and Israel are carrying out airstrikes and missile attacks on Iran. Therefore, it can be assumed that the airstrike on Iranian Naval Commander Alireza Tangsiri may have cost the US and Israel several million dollars.

heavy expenditure on arms

According to reports, approximately $5.6 billion worth of weapons and ammunition were used in the first two days of the Israel-Iran war.

A Tomahawk missile costs approximately ₹12 crore (approximately $1.2 billion), while an interceptor from a defense system like THAAD costs over ₹1 billion (approximately $1 billion).

Israel is receiving significant military aid

According to reports, the US has provided Israel with military aid worth between $17.9 billion and $21.7 billion since October 2023. This includes weapons, technology, and other resources, making this war more expensive.

Global impact and growing concern

This development has further escalated tensions in the Middle East. The situation in the Strait of Hormuz, its impact on oil supplies and global markets, is being closely watched by the world.
