A software engineer started with ₹10,000 and went on to earn ₹3.5 lakh per month in five years. Focus on learning, new skills, and making informed decisions accelerated his career growth.
A software engineer recently shared his career journey, explaining how his salary grew from ₹10,000 a month to ₹3.5 lakh. He shared this story on the Developers India community and explained that making informed decisions and persistent hard work were the keys to his success.
Initially, a different decision was made
He began his career after graduating from college in 2018. While he received a job offer of ₹25,000 a month, he turned it down and opted for an internship at a Bengaluru startup with a stipend of ₹10,000. His goal was to learn the real world from the ground up.
Focus on learning in difficult situations
During his internship, he lived on a shoestring budget, sharing a small apartment with roommates and keeping expenses very limited. During this time, he learned technologies like React and Node.js and spent nights solving system problems.
Gradually increasing salary
In 2019, he got a full-time job at the same company, paying ₹25,000 per month. In 2020, his salary increased to ₹35,000, making him a full-stack developer. In 2021, his salary reached ₹45,000, and soon after, it rose to ₹80,000.
Big opportunity with new skills
He focused on learning blockchain technology. He honed his skills through online courses, coding exercises, and working on GitHub projects.
Subsequently, he received offers from several companies, and his salary nearly doubled.
Got a big break from LinkedIn
In 2022, a French company spotted his LinkedIn profile and, after an interview, offered him a remote job paying ₹3.5 lakh per month.
This was four times his previous salary. He accepted the opportunity and also launched his own startup.
Established his own startup
In 2024, he quit his job and focused entirely on his startup, Teckas Technologies. Today, his company works with clients in India, Europe, and the United States and continues to grow.
What did you learn from this journey?
He admits that he didn't focus on a specific skill early on and neglected financial planning. But his biggest decision, prioritizing learning over salary, was the key to his success.
Overall, this story shows that if you focus on learning early on and work hard consistently, it is possible to achieve great success.
